With the rise of unemployment, there are going to be many people with a lot of time on their hands:

The unemployed are stressed out about unpaid bills, dashed retirement plans and the loss of workplace camaraderie. But many say life minus work also has its bittersweet upsides, including more time with family and friends, learning new skills, focusing on their health and pursuing hobbies.

There is a wide range of opinions, of course, about just how sweet, or bitter, the experience has been.

The process of becoming unemployed and then re-employed can be a stressful one. It can one feel isolated, scared and/or hopeless. The above article outlines how some are handling it, and here are a few additional suggestions of what you can do to help you get back and employed. Doing the little things can really help get you back and employed.

  • Write speeches and seminar presentations
  • Talk with friends and family about possible job openings
  • Research e-mail lists
  • Blog about your industry to show your expertise
